What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a non-invasive, hands-on health care discipline that focuses on treatment and preventative care for disorders and conditions related to the spine, nervous system, and musculoskeletal system. For many conditions, such as lower back pain, chiropractic care is frequently the primary method of treatment recommended by most medical doctors.

Chiropractors perform a complete history and physical examination, diagnose and develop a comprehensive treatment plan which may include spinal adjustments/joint mobilizations, soft tissue therapy, acupuncture, and rehabilitative exercises.  All treatment plans are predicated on the specific needs of the individual patient.  At the clinic, Dr. Toner works with her patients to help resolve pain, discomfort, and restricted range of motion that can happen during an injury. Once patients are back to feeling better, many continue care to help prevent further injury, maintain the benefits they have achieved through treatment, and treat the ailments of everyday stress and workloads.

Dr. Toner believes in treating each individual as a whole and focuses on how each patient’s musculoskeletal and nervous system function in relation to the whole body.  She treats patients of all ages, both young and young at heart, and tailors each treatment plan to the patient’s physical needs, capabilities and therapeutic goals.

Importance of Back Health

The body’s information highway – your nervous system – is protected by the spine. The nervous system travels out between the vertebrae or joints of the spine to carry messages from the brain to every corner of your body. Stress and strain on the vertebrae can put pressure on the nerves in the affected area. That is why a problem with your spine can have far-reaching effects causing symptoms such as arm or leg pain.  Your spine really is the backbone of the rest of your body.
